It covers an area of 1,861,484 square kilometers and has an estimated population of 40 million people. The official language of Sudan is Arabic but English is also widely spoken throughout the country. The currency used in Sudan is the Sudanese Pound (SDG). The economy of Sudan is largely based on agriculture with over 70% of its population engaged in farming and livestock production. Other important sectors include oil production and refining, construction and manufacturing. Tourism is also an important contributor to the economy with many visitors drawn to its diverse landscapes and cultural attractions such as ancient monuments and archaeological sites. Education in Sudan is free at all levels and there are a number of universities throughout the country offering courses in various fields including engineering, medicine and business studies. There are also many religious sites located throughout the country including churches, mosques and shrines that are important pilgrimage sites for Christians as well as for followers of other faiths. Sudan is a country located in Northeast Africa which uses the Eastern Africa Time (EAT) zone. This time zone is three hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC+03:00) and does not observe Daylight Saving Time (DST). This means that clocks in Sudan remain the same throughout the year. Sudan has a hot desert climate with two distinct seasons, a wet season and dry season. The wet season runs from June to October with temperatures ranging from 20°C – 32°C, while the dry season runs from November to May bringing cooler temperatures with averages between 16°C – 28°C. Despite having two distinct seasons, Sudan’s climate is generally hot year-round with occasional bouts of extreme weather such as sandstorms or heat waves in certain areas. The major international airport in Sudan is Khartoum International Airport located near Khartoum which offers flights to nearby countries such as Egypt and Ethiopia as well as international locations such as Europe, Asia and North America. All flight schedules follow EAT time zone so travelers should be aware that their flight may depart earlier or later than expected if they are connecting from a different time zone. Additionally, it’s important for visitors to be aware that some areas within Sudan may have their own local times which differ from EAT even though most parts of the country observe this time zone year-round.
