Somalia is a country located in the Horn of Africa, bordered by Ethiopia, Djibouti, and Kenya. The country uses the East Africa Time (EAT) zone which is three hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC+3). This time zone does not observe Daylight Saving Time (DST) meaning clocks in Somalia remain on the same time year-round and do not move forward or backward to accommodate for changing daylight hours throughout the seasons. Somalia has two distinct seasons: jilal (dry season) which lasts from December to March and gu (rainy season) which lasts from April to November. During these times temperatures vary from an average minimum temperature of 25°C during jilal to an average maximum temperature of 35°C during gu. Despite having two distinct seasons, Somalia’s climate is generally hot and dry year-round with occasional bouts of heavy rainfall during gu season. The major international airport in Somalia is Aden Adde International Airport located in Mogadishu which offers flights to nearby countries such as Ethiopia, Djibouti, Yemen and Kenya. All flight schedules follow EAT time zone so travelers should be aware that their flight may depart earlier or later than expected if they are connecting from a different time zone. Additionally, it’s important for visitors to be aware that some areas within Somalia may have their own local times which differ from EAT even though most parts of the country observe this time zone year-round.
