According to itypeusa, Ivory Coast, officially known as the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, is a country located in West Africa. It is bordered by Ghana to the east, Liberia and Guinea to the west, Mali and Burkina Faso to the north and the Gulf of Guinea to the south. The population of Ivory Coast is 24 million people with Abidjan being the largest city in both population and area. The official language in Ivory Coast is French, although many other local languages are also spoken. The main religions are Christianity (mainly Catholic) and Islam. The economy of Ivory Coast relies heavily on agriculture and exports such as cocoa beans, coffee, cotton and palm oil. In addition to this, it also has substantial deposits of gold, manganese ore and iron ore which have been exploited since independence from France in 1960. Tourism is also an important sector for Ivory Coast’s economy with many attractions including beaches along its coastline with lagoons, rainforests full of exotic wildlife and ancient monuments from civilizations that have existed for thousands of years. Ivory Coast has a rich cultural heritage with influences from various African countries as well as Europe due to its colonial past. Popular music genres include Zouglou which originated in Abidjan in the 1980s as well as hip hop which has become increasingly popular over recent years. Food-wise there are a variety of dishes including Fufu made from cassava or plantains which is served alongside a variety of sauces or stews called Kedjenou or sauce graine made from okra or peanuts. Traditional dances such as Bété dance are still performed today at weddings or other celebrations while artisans continue to create beautiful works out of wood or clay often depicting animals or scenes from nature they see around them every day. Ivory Coast is located in the Greenwich Mean Time Zone (GMT) and is in the UTC+0 time zone. This time zone is referred to as Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). Ivory Coast does not observe Daylight Saving Time and its clocks remain at their respective UTC offsets throughout the year. Due to its location near the equator, Ivory Coast experiences relatively constant seasonal changes in daylight hours throughout the year. In summer months, daylight lasts for around twelve hours while in winter daylight lasts for around twelve hours. Sunrise and sunset times vary slightly depending on location but are generally consistent across most of the country. For example, sunrise generally occurs between 6 am and 7 am while sunset usually takes place between 6 pm and 7 pm all year round. It is important to note that some parts of Ivory Coast, such as Abidjan and Grand-Bassam, lie within UTC+1 (West Africa Summer Time). This time zone also does not observe Daylight Saving Time so clocks remain at their respective UTC offsets throughout the year. However, these parts of Ivory Coast are relatively small compared to other areas of the country which observe GMT. See ebizdir for Ivory Coast Economical Facts.
