According to itypeusa, Gabon is a nation located in Central Africa, bordered by Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, and the Republic of Congo. It has a population of over 2 million people and its capital city is Libreville. French is the official language spoken in Gabon but other regional languages such as Fang and Myéné are also spoken by some of the population. The culture of Gabon is diverse with influences from countries such as France and Portugal contributing to its rich history. Music is an important part of Gabon culture with many styles including folk, hip hop, jazz and reggae all popular throughout the country. Art also plays a significant role in Gabon with many renowned artists such as Pierre Bodo, Georges Danangou and Jean-Marie Tchicaya having achieved international fame for their works. Cuisine plays an important role in Gabon culture with traditional dishes like mbongo tchobi (a type of stew) and mbata (a porridge dish) all popular staples found across the country. The economy of Gabon is heavily reliant on oil production which accounts for more than 75% of its GDP. Other key industries include timber production, mining and fishing which provide employment opportunities for many rural communities. Tourism has become increasingly popular over recent years due to its stunning landscapes found across the country from its lush rainforests to its picturesque coastline dotted with rocky islands. Visitors can explore centuries-old monuments or sample local cuisine at one of its many restaurants or cafes while nature lovers can take part in activities such as whale watching or bird watching which are both very popular activities in Gabon. Gabon is located in Central Africa, and as such lies within the West Africa Time Zone (WAT). This time zone is one hour ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), meaning that when it is 12:00 UTC it is 13:00 WAT in Gabon. This means that Gabon follows the same time as its neighbors Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, and Nigeria. During Daylight Savings Time (DST) however, these countries all observe a different time than Gabon; while they observe West Africa Summer Time (WAST), Gabon stays on WAT. This means from the end of March to the end of October each year, while its neighbors are two hours ahead of UTC, Gabon remains one hour ahead. The capital city of Libreville observes WAT all year round; however, other parts of the country may observe different times due to their geographical location. The provinces in the east and southeast such as Haut-Ogooué and Moyen-Ogooué are close to the border with Congo and may choose to observe Congo’s time zone instead of WAT. In addition, some areas near the border with Cameroon may choose to follow Cameroon’s time zone instead of WAT as well. Overall though, most parts of Gabon can be expected to follow West Africa Time Zone throughout most or all of the year. As such, when traveling to Gabon it is important to remember that you will need to adjust your watch by one hour compared to most other countries in Central Africa which are on either UTC or UTC+1 depending on whether they observe Daylight Savings Time or not.
