According to itypeusa, Botswana is a country located in the southern part of Africa, bordered by South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe. It has a population of around 2.3 million people and covers an area of 581,730 square kilometers. The official language is English although other languages such as Setswana and Kalanga are also spoken. Botswana has a semi-arid climate with hot summers and mild winters. The economy is largely based on mining, tourism, agriculture and industry with diamond mining being one of the main sources of income for many people. Botswana also has a rich cultural heritage due to its diverse population which includes several ethnic groups such as Tswana, Kalanga, Basarwa and Bayei. The capital city is Gaborone while other major cities include Francistown, Lobatse and Maun. Botswana also boasts some of the best safari experiences in Africa with Chobe National Park being one of the best places to observe wildlife including elephants, lions, leopards and cheetahs in their natural habitat. In addition to its natural beauty and rich culture, Botswana also offers some great opportunities for adventure activities such as quad biking through Makgadikgadi Salt Pans or hot air ballooning over Savuti Marsh Game Reserve. Botswana is located in the Central Africa Time Zone, which is two hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC+2). This time zone is shared with other countries such as Angola, Zambia and Zimbabwe. During Daylight Saving Time (DST), clocks are moved forward one hour to UTC+3. DST begins on the first Sunday in October and ends on the last Sunday of March each year. Botswana is also part of the Central Africa Summer Time (CAST) Zone, which is three hours ahead of UTC during DST. Most countries in Africa observe DST from October to March each year, so Botswana follows suit. During this time period, it shares its time zone with other countries such as Namibia and South Africa. Clocks are moved back one hour to UTC+2 when DST ends in March. In addition to observing Daylight Saving Time along with other parts of Africa, Botswana also observes certain holidays with special times or exceptions to its standard time zone. For example, on New Year’s Day all clocks are moved forward by one hour for an additional hour of daylight savings time. On Christmas Day (December 25th), all clocks are moved back by two hours so that people can attend church services earlier at night; this is known as “Christmas Miracle” or “Little Christmas” in some parts of Botswana.
