Praia

Praia, the capital of the Atlantic Ocean of Cape Verde; 130,300 residents (2010). The city is located on São Tiago and was built approximately 1585, when the former main city had been repeatedly attacked by English and French pirates. The center of a high plateau contains old colonial buildings from the Portuguese era. Now Praia is a modern port city characterized by government functions and administration.
