School and education in Mali

In Mali, the education follows a 6-3-3 system, where the primary school lasts for 6 years, the secondary school for 3 years and the secondary school for 3 years. Basic education

The official school age is 7 years. In principle, both primary and secondary school are free and compulsory. Nevertheless, only 63% of 7-year-olds started in primary school in 2011, while only 31% of 13-year-olds started in secondary school.

Higher education

There are some higher education institutions in the country, but most students study either in Senegal or in France.
