Wall Clocks

In mechanical wall clocks the power source can be the manual cord or the weights and the regulation is carried out by the pendulum.

The pendulum is a heavy body, suspended at a fixed point around which it can oscillate. The pendulum of the fixed clocks is also called pendulum. It is necessary to distinguish it from the steering wheel, circular regulator of the portable watches. The idea of using the oscillations of the pendulum to measure the time goes back to Galileo and was Huyghens who in 1657, constructed the first pendulum clock.

Types Of Wall Clocks

Bing-bang. It has two weights, one serves as a rope so that the watch can
move and the other serves as a rope so the watch can touch. The bing-bang
touches the whole and the stockings. (Example: 13: 00-13: 30 and 14: 00 hours

Carrillón . It has three weights, the first serves as a rope for the watch to walk, the second serves as a rope for the watch to play and the third serves as a rope so that it can touch the rooms. The bing-bang touches the whole and the stockings.(Example: 13: 00-13: 30 and 14: 00 hours).

Installation And Commissioning

Once hung, place the pendulum carefully by the hook of the machine and also place the weights by the hooks that carry the chains.
Once the clock is hung correctly, we will start to start it:

Make sure that the watch is completely centered, neither to the right nor to the left.

Once you reach the limit that you can move the pendulum, release it and let it oscillate freely, you will see that its movement is too fast and long, but in 5 or 10 minutes, it will catch its normal oscillation.
In this way we get, what is called in watchwords “being centered” and that works perfectly.

It may be that when you put it in time you have a synchronization problem, that does not correspond the number of chimes with the hour that the clock ticks.

Then do the following:

  1. Slowly advance the long hand of the minute hand until the clock chimes in the whole.
  2. Count the bells you have given.
  3. The short needle that marks the hours until the bells you have given is pushed forward.
Example: If the clock has given 8 strokes, the short hour needle is pushed to 8 and the long needle must be in the twelve o’clock position.
  4. The long hand of the minute hand is then pushed forward always until it is on time (always following the instructions described in the operation of the machine)

The operation of a wall clock is very simple, just follow these simple instructions and you will have no problem.

The dumbbells are the rope of the clock, as you walk, they go down in height, until reaching the limit of the rope, which is approximately 7 or 8 days.
To wind the clock, simply lift the weights to the desired height or the maximum limit that allows and you will already have the rope given.
How to do it ?, very simple, you will notice that there are four chains, two hold the two weights and the other two are free. Then you must pull those chains to raise the weights.
It is recommended that while pulling the chain to raise the weights, with the other hand, take the weight so that it does not put as much weight on the free chain.

The pendulum is the key piece for the watch to function.Whenever the pendulum is swinging or moving from left to right, the watch will be running.
If you want to watch for some circumstance, a trip, a long stay, etc. Just stop the movement of the pendulum with your hand until it is completely still. The clock stops and does not work.

Hours IMPORTANT! Never move your hands in the opposite direction, always, always, forward, clockwise, or right.
In addition, you should always wait for all the chimes, be they half, whole or fourth. You should never run a bell without letting them touch theirs.

Therefore learned these little indications, it is only left to set the clock, always picking up the long (minutes) needle.

In quartz watches the procedure to follow is similar.
