Toshiba TG01, New Impressions and Video

Once presented the Toshiba TG01, become the first impressions of the media that have been tested, it is interesting to read the conclusions, always having clear that made opinions are on a terminal that does not represent a final product.

The media I’ve had opportunity to read share the same prints, the Toshiba TG01 It’s a phone with great potential drowned by design details incomprehensible at this point, especially in relation to the user interface.

Its touchscreen is not multipoint, a detail that rather determines the device interface, Toshiba It wished to innovate by offering an alternative to Samsung or HTC in this aspect, providing a layer above the operating system oriented to the use of touch and with an attractive graphic appearance, but the end result is not good thing to be expected.

Remember that the system operates below this interface is Windows Mobile, and often required a stylus to access certain functions with comfort, but inexplicably the phone does not incorporate one. I’m sure it will be one of the aspects to review until the terminal is put on sale.

The widgets interface is based on NetFront browser, included in the system, and is evident that navigation between menus is fluid, the device has hardware surplus for these purposes, detail also attributable to the use of the new Internet Explorer Mobile 6 optimized for touch use.

A detail that seems strange, taking into account that competition if you are having it this is the addition of a front camera for video conferencing, they have also forgotten it.

Terminal finish is good, shown in two colors, black and white, there are few physical buttons, and an accelerometer dubbed g-sensor, with much to say on the use of mobile, in addition to the already typical automatic screen orientation change, allows that by shaking the phone back to the main screen if we are lost through the menus or answer a call.

If we were to compare it to an existing terminal, is undoubtedly the closest thing the HTC Touch HD, is even bigger as we can see in recreation then, but they share the same resolution (800 × 480 pixels) screen, in the case of the terminal of Toshiba with 4.1 inch (228dpi) and the HTC Touch with 3.8 inches (246dpi).

For better position in the market, remember that the display of a iPhone is 3.5 inches with a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels, and in particular the measures of the new terminal of Toshiba are 129 × 71 × 9.9 mm, 2.9 mm thinner than the Apple terminal, but rather larger altogether.

What is unusual in the terminal is the use of a processor Qualcomm geared towards use in NETBOOKs, but apparently are not only interested in using it, quite powerful compared to the competition, but with a possible drawback, the autonomy of the battery with a capacity of 1000 mAh.

The QSD2850 processor 1 GHz of the Toshiba has a new management of CPU speed depending on the location of the battery, we will see if this is good and interesting practice. Let us remember that HTC has the same company, the MSM7201A 528 MHz processor.

The specifications discussed ahead, the only aspect where the HTC terminal is superior is on camera, 5 megapixels, auto focus flash. In these tasks the iPhone stays behind with his camera of 2MP without flash.

I leave you with a promotional video of the terminal in which reviewed its main innovations, such as the user interface, Internet Explorer 6, Prince of Persia or multimedia work:

Concluding with the publication, return to comment that my opinion on the development of this phone is that it has been designed with reference to the HTC Touch HD more that Apple’s iPhone, and from that point of view, they have made a very interesting terminal.

I hope that they solve the problems detected initially and get a better end product, but the barrier of Windows Mobile face to the public is difficult to jump, I still think that have been brought to Android (or even Symbian), would have been a better choice.

Although Android what you need now is not a terminal with more power, perhaps the new platform battery management SnapDragon Qualcomm can be very interesting, as well as the support of other big manufacturer, but this is a subject that talk on another occasion.
